Banking can some times be a little tricky on Utila. The best thing is to be prepared! There are only two banks on Utila one accepts only VISA and the other also accepts MasterCard.
The bigger hotels on Utila accept major credit cards, however most businesses will only accept cash.

US Dollars are widely accepted on Utila, although the exchange rate can vary, with bars and restaurants generally giving worse exchange rates than you can get from the bank.

Cash withdrawals on a VISA debit or credit) are possible at the ATM next to the ferry dock, or over the counter at either HSBC or you can also use MasterCard at Banco Atlantida (bring your passport!).

There are currently two places to get a cash advance on credit and debit cards in Utila.

Rivera Supermarket located in the small town center also offers cash advances on Mastercards and American Express cards, but will charge 6%.

If you choose to use traveler’s cheques, these can be exchanged at HSBC bank or at the Tourist Information office. Commission is not usually charged, however the exchange rate may be slightly worse than you will get for cash.
