What’s involved?
There are two major components to the Master Scuba Diver course – the academics and the diving. You’ll make a minimum of eight dives where the dives and dive sites are selected to provide the greatest possible variety of dive site and environmental conditions. Depending on which elective dives you choose you could find yourself descending on a seamount in the open ocean, shore diving, drift diving, or wreck diving.
The academics portion of the course covers all the dive theory you’ll need to know to take you right up to instructor. You’ll cover dive physics, physiology, dive environment, dive equipment, decompression and recompression, rescue and emergency procedures, amongst other areas. The best way to make the most of your time on Utila is to get the majority of academic work out of the way before you arrive, and thanks to NAUI’s innovative education system you can complete the academic portion of this course in the comfort of your own home. This kit includes everything needed for the Master Scuba Diver course:
• Textbook
• Workbook
• Home study video
• NAUI pen and pencil
• Student record folder
• Guide to NAUI membership
• And decals
What’s required?
Minimum Age: 15 years.
Physical: For safety, all students complete a brief questionnaire that asks about medical conditions that could be a problem while diving. If none of these apply, you sign the form and you’re ready to start. If any of these apply to you, as a safety precaution your physician must assess the condition as it relates to diving and sign a medical form that confirms that you’re fit to dive.
Certification: NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver, PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, or equivalent.
Learning Materials: All the learning materials you need are included in the price of the course. However, we recommend you purchase the NAUI Master Scuba Diver Student Education System to allow you to complete the majority of the academics portion of this course before you arrive.
